Phoenix Productions’ 30th Anniversary Show
In March 2005, I was a featured dancer in Jesus Christ Superstar. This was my first experience with the group, and instantly knew it was a wonderful community that produced high-quality shows.
The summer of 2005 I was cast as the Tornado in The Wiz and spent my summer driving up and down the Garden State Parkway for this fun and lively show. In the fall of 2005, I was cast in Aida, dancing in approximately 12 numbers in the first act (!!!) and loving every moment of it. The costume changes were so quick, but overall Aida is still one of my favorite show experiences to date.
After being away from the theater scene for over 10 years, I saw that Phoenix was holding auditions for their 30th Anniversary Production and I wanted to be a part of it. I felt super rusty at the dance callback but realized that muscle memory kicks into action and enjoyed the choreography after being out of practice for so long. I was cast in 4 dance numbers: “42nd Street” Opening from 42nd Street, “Under the Sea” from The Little Mermaid, “It’s a Musical” from Something Rotten, “Can’t Be Bothered Now” from My One and Only and the finale, “You Will Be Found” from Dear Evan Hansen.
Returning to the stage was amazing, and something I didn’t think would happen at this point in my life, considering I also had a 6-month-old baby, rehearsals were a few nights each week 45 minutes away from my home and I work full-time. I got to share the experience with 106 cast members and loved every moment. Thank you to Phoenix for being such a wonderful group and making the reunion a great experience.
